New 2012 Trend: Marilyn Monroe Bride

With the new Marilyn movie and the new hit show “Smash” people are loving everything Marilyn Monroe and brides are no exception.  Marilyn Monroe is such an iconic figure and who wouldn’t take some inspiration from her style?  To me, her style is the epitome of what was beautiful and sexy.  In 2012 brides are using her and her movies as the theme for their appearance and sometimes the overall feeling for their wedding.

If you love Marilyn like I do, copying her style is the key to having a Marilyn themed wedding.  There are a few ways to imitate her style with her hair and makeup being the most important.  Brides everywhere are using her curls, red lips and black cat eyes to complete the look.

You don’t want to go too overboard and look like you are trying to hard.  My advice is to pick a few things that you love about her style and use that as inspiration.

Her hair may be the easiest and most recognizable part of Marilyn’s style.  You can even choose to modernize the makeup (like Drew Barrymore below) and still have the essence of Marilyn.

Use her style as inspiration in picking your wedding dress.  My favorite accessory for a Marilyn inspiration are gloves.  The opera style is infamous with her pink dress and diamonds for the movie  “Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend”.

This movie doubles as a perfect theme for any reception.  Use crystals and “diamonds” to decorate the centerpieces and decor.

Look at pictures of Marilyn and let your photographer know your theme and overall look.  You can even copy some of her famous pictures to use as bridal portraits. The one below is my favorite!

Don’t forget about your departure wedding dress or second dress for the reception.  In my opinion you can be a little more daring with this fashion choice.

What do you think of this Marilyn Monroe bridal trend?  We would love to hear your thoughts!

Second Wedding Dresses; Perfect Party Dresses for the Bride

After the ceremony so many brides are changing from their traditional wedding dresses in to short, fun and flirty party dresses.  I love this new trend for so many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that you can party the night away dancing!  By choosing a second wedding dress you don’t have to stress over choosing a traditional dress for the ceremony that might constrict you from busting those moves later in the evening. You can also be free to greet your guests without the worry that someone will step on that beautiful train you wanted.

My favorite reason to have a dress change is to show off those awesome shoes! If you decide not to change, no one will ever really get to see them!

One of the things that guests talk about most after a wedding is how the bride looked.  Changing in to a second dress is sure to surprise your guests and keep them talking all night long.  There are no set rules to choosing a second wedding dress.  Just choose something that is fun and makes you feel beautiful!

Vintage dresses are always in style and I love these 50’s inspired dresses!

If you really want to make a statement wear a colored dress…you will definitely have all eyes on you in this vintage red dress!

Have fun with the veils and hair accessories! This is a party so make sure your dress and accessories fit the style and type of reception you want to have.

No matter the style or length of your party dress as long as you love it your guests will too!

Hand Painted Wedding Cakes

In 2012 you will see many new trends. One of the most beautiful trends has to be hand painted wedding cakes!  These wedding cakes look like works of art and almost look too good to eat…almost ;).   These hand painted cakes can reflect your theme, the time of year (summer, fall, etc) or even be made to resemble your invitations and stationary. Below are some examples of these jaw dropping cakes!

Some of these cakes almost look like stained glass in a church…just exquisite!

The theme of your event can be accented in the hand painted details of your wedding cake such as this amazing cultural wedding cake below.

Using your wedding colors in a bold way on the cake makes a huge statement.

I love using the fondant flowers as an accent and painting them to match the cake!

You can even choose to use your wedding flowers and colors as the sole inspiration for the cake design.

No matter the design you choose these hand painted cakes are guaranteed to impress!

Happy Planning!
