Bonbonnieres!!

Centuries ago, European aristocrats, most notably those in France and Italy, would send their wedding guests home with a small gift called a bonbonniere, or as it’s called in Italian, a bomboniere. These weren’t exclusively a wedding staple since they were also given out at birthday parties and other celebratory occasions.  A bonbonniere was actually a box made of porcelain, crystal, precious stones or metal. Inside one would find delicacies made of sugar. It was from these boxed and gift wrapped confections that today’s wedding favors are derived.  Facts thanks to:  http://weddings.lovetoknow.com/wiki/History_of_Wedding_Favors

Ah, the wedding favor!  A long time wedding tradition that can be dated back to the 16th century.  However, traditions have evolved as the world has evolved.   You have seen it all from personalized bags of m&ms, labeled candles, ect…  How about a wedding favor that your guests will actually enjoy.  Let’s just be honest, besides the obvious reason of celebrating your love, your guests deep down inside can’t wait to indulge in good food, drinks and take away gifts that reflect the true personality of you and your fiance.  After all, it provides them with a little insight on who you are as a couple.  I invite you to check out these awesome ideas for wedding favors because you can never go wrong with something delicious to eat, drink and a memento that will last a long time!

Enjoy!

Ways to Pamper Your Wedding Guests

Many of your guests will travel from all over the country to come and witness you and your fiance tie the knot.  Along the way they will spend a good bit of money on travel expenses, hotel accommodations, and food.  A nice way to say thank you is to pamper your guests in small ways that can make a big impact!

One way to say thank you to all the out of town guests even before the wedding begins is with welcome baskets.  My favorite way to create these baskets is to theme them for the state or area of the wedding and leave them in the hotel room for when they arrive.

Another way to pamper your guests is during the ceremony.  I love this idea of offering handkerchiefs for guests.  Not only does this help with happy tears and “pampers” your guests but it doubles as the perfect keepsake wedding favor.

You can also give your guests small items to keep them comfortable during your ceremony.  My favorite is personalized sunglasses! Or you can give umbrellas, fans, or blankets depending on the weather to keep them cool or warm.

If you want guests to dance the night away, combat those tired and hurting feet by offering flip flops!

During the reception a small gesture to pamper guests is to make an emergency basket for the guests. Include mints, band aids, medicine, etc for all the mishaps that could happen! Getting married at Glendalough Manor?  You won’t need to worry about making these baskets because they provide them for you!

Don’t forget about the guys! Have a cigar bar at the reception and they may never want to leave!

Liquor of the Year: Hola Tequila!

According to the Huffington Post, the liquor of the year for weddings is Tequila!  There are so many ways to incorporate tequila in to your wedding and one of the easiest ways is to have tequila in your signature drink.  A signature drink is usually passed during the cocktail hour and gives guests a glimpse in to the reception.  What shows your wedding reception will be a fun party more than tequila?!

Of course the most popular drink with tequila is a margarita (which guests will love) but if you want a twist on the traditional margarita try looking at some of these great nontraditional tequila recipes by WedShare.

Some of my favorite drinks for Spring are this watermelon tequila agua fresca or this spicy cucumber margarita!

Another way to give guests a tequila inspired drink is to have a tequila bar with assorted tequilas, salts and don’t forget the limes!

For a unique way to have tequila at your wedding, consider a gourmet jello tequila shot!

And why not pass out your tequila signature drinks along with a tequila inspired appetizer?  I love this idea of grabbing a drink and an hors d’oeurvres at the same time!
