String Lights: Light up Your Wedding!

In all the years planning weddings I would have to say lighting is one of the key elements in the decor.  It sets the mood for the wedding giving off a sense of romance and elegance.  Candles of all shapes and sizes have been used for years to decorate weddings and are still being used today.  As beautiful as candles look there are other ways brides are lighting up their reception.  One of my favorite ways is to use string lighting.

This classic rope or market style lighting is a simple way to dress up a ceremony or reception location.  The most popular way to use string lighting is at your reception.  Whether you have an inside or outside reception string lighting can totally transform a space.  It adds a touch of sparkle overhead almost looking like tiny stars.

For an outside affair you can choose to use a tent, clear tent being my favorite, or use the string lighting as your “tent”.

You don’t have to have a lot of lights to make a big impact.  A few strands of light can add so much to your reception! Plus, it is a fairly inexpensive DIY addition with many string lighting starting at about $9 per strand you can get about 23 feet of lighting!

Wedding Inspiration: Purple and Gray

Oh, sweet gray, how I love thee!

Gray is the new “hot” color in everything from fashion to design and I couldn’t be more thrilled.  It makes the perfect compliment to almost any alternating wedding color, and that is no exception to the color purple.  I adore the color purple, so feminine and elegant, that there is no question I love the idea of pairing purple and gray together.

This color palette works well in any time of the year and even looks stunning in the winter!

Purple or gray looks great on most skin tones and is a great choice for the bridesmaids or groomsmen to wear.  Gray tuxes are a nice alternative to the traditional black tuxes and are a good fit for a daytime or evening wedding.

One of the ways to make your purple color choice stand out is to incorporate lighting in to your reception.  With the right lighting you can make any room look like a million bucks.

You can even choose all white flowers and use purple lighting to give the flowers a purple hue…love it!

Gray linens or lavender linens are a great base for white and shades of purple flowers.  You can add more purple if you want a more dramatic look.

All That Glitters is…Gold!

Metallics, especially gold, are one of the biggest trends in 2012 and I am completely in love with this trend!  If you want an elegant yet modern wedding, try pairing your wedding colors with gold.  So many colors look fabulous with gold and it instantly transforms a soft, neutral color palette in to a rich color story.

Gold is a not only a perfect accent to many different wedding colors but is best seen in the wedding details.  One of the first ways to give you guests a sneak peek in to your wedding is with your choice of invitation.  Gold letterpress invitations are a perfect choice when using gold!

Some bold brides are even choosing to wear gold wedding dresses.  Definitely not a for every bride but if you want to stand out, a gold dress will certainly do the trick!

If a gold wedding dress is a little too much for you, then try pairing your dress with gold shoes or accessories.

You can even carry a bouquet with gold accents!

Many brides are going all out and choosing a gold wedding cake.  At first I thought this might be a little over the top but I have to say I think it is so unique and interesting I just can’t help but love it!

Whether you choose a soft color palette like pink or choose a bold color like orange, gold is the perfect compliment!
