Gifts for Out of Town Guests!

Most out of town guests travel a long way and make special arrangements to see you get married.  A great way to say thank you is to surprise them with a gift basket or bag filled with goodies for their stay.  These gift bags can be as simple or elaborate as you would like and are a great DIY project.  These bags usually don’t take a lot of effort to make but will mean a lot to your guests.

First, decide what you would like to put your gifts in…..a personalized bag, a box, basket or even a mini box or suitcase.  Also think about your wedding and if there is a theme or an aspect of your wedding that is unique.  The best gift bags will not only be a treat for your guests but give them a taste of what’s to come for your wedding. Lastly,  you will need to decide on the items to go in your bag that will compliment your theme. Below are some examples and tips of items for your out of town guests.

A beach themed wedding bag can include sunscreen, flip flops, chap stick, towels, and a bottle of water all in a basket weave tote or beach bag.

If you don’t have a theme for your wedding, you can make the out of town bag all about the state you are getting married in.  For example, if you are getting married in Atlanta you can include a bottle of coke , a varsity hat, peanuts, peaches, or any of the Georgia themed snacks below.

These bags are a perfect addition to a state themed gift bag for out of town guests!

I would always suggest putting in a few snacks and drinks for them to enjoy.  Especially since they are traveling and may get hungry along their trip.

An idea I love is to include a hangover kit to include a bottle of water, some headache medicine, antacid and a cover for their eyes! Too cute and how easy is this to make?

A great way to personalize your gift “bag” is to include a map and an itinerary.  In the itinerary include activities for the wedding and also things to do in the area before and after the wedding (places to eat, shop, visit, etc.)! If you want to save money, you can always include a regular map of the city and print out your own itinerary.

I hope these ideas have helped you choose gifts for your out of town guests!

Happy Planning!

Wedding Cake Pops..Yum!!

If you haven’t tried a cake pop you are really missing out!! Cake pops are cake and frosting mixed together and hand dipped in chocolate to make one of the yummiest bite size desserts ever! Brides are using cake pops in many different ways and one of the most common ways is to use them as wedding favors.

Guests love anything edible and cake pops are a perfect way to say thank you.  Cake pops can even be a DIY project.  Just know that although they are easy to make, they can be time consuming  (especially the week of your wedding!)

I also love the idea of using cake pops as your guests “escort card”.  Just tie a cute tag to the cake pop with the guests name and table number!

Many brides are having dessert tables in addition to their wedding cake.  If you have a dessert table you can save money by purchasing a smaller wedding cake. Using candles and cake pops to surround the wedding cake fills up the table and makes a great display.  Look how beautiful it looks below!

If you love cake pops and want a non-traditional wedding cake then a cake pop wedding cake might be perfect for you!

However you decide to use cake pops I promise your guests will love them and they will be a huge hit at any wedding!

Are you using cake pops at your wedding?  Please let us know what you think!! Love it or hate it??

Kids Table Ideas

Let’s face it, as much as you may not want kids to attend your wedding or even indicate an adult reception there will inevitably be some guests that have to bring their children.  You have to decide what is most important to you….you allow them to attend the wedding with their children or put your foot down and inform them they cannot come with their kids.  If you make the latter decision, be prepared to upset some friends or family.

In my opinion kids are an important part of the family and why hassle with upsetting people just to prevent a handful of kids from attending.  Trust me, if you choose an evening wedding most  guests will leave the kiddies at home with a sitter however out of town guests may not have that luxury.  If you are having a few kids attend why not come up with some creative ideas to make them happy and keep them busy at the same time!

One of my favorite ideas is a kids table or kids “station” where the kids can go either during dinner or immediately following dinner and have their own fun.

Make sure to give the kids a variety of fun things to do….some of my favorite things are crayons, stickers, and coloring books.  Any fun container (like the lunchbox above)  is a perfect way to display all of the items. I would also suggest personalizing the gift or container. Just like adults, kids will feel very special knowing they were thought of for the wedding.   Another great idea is to use parchment paper for a table mat or over the entire table so you don’t have to worry about any messes or drawings on the linens.

Be creative and choose age appropriate items for the children attending.  If you have kids that are a little older you can even put card games or puzzles that all of the kids can have fun playing with!  How cute is the mini etch-a-sketch below?!

The best part is that all of these fun items also double as great favors for the kids to take home with them after the wedding!
