Wedding Budgets! (don’t miss this one)

Who pays for what?

Deciding on a budget can be a tricky conversation with not only your fiancé but your parents as well.  You will need to find out whether you will have help from either side of the family and how much they are willing to contribute.   No matter if you have a $10,000 budget or a $100,000 budget you must decide who will pay for which items.  Many people do not have the cookie cutter situation in regard to paying for a wedding and as times are changing so is the contribution of money.  If you want to follow the etiquette guidelines for “who pays for what” the bride’s family would pay for the majority of the wedding expenses except for the items below:

Traditional Expenses of the Groom and His Family (www.emilypost.com/weddings )

  • Bride’s engagement and wedding rings
  • Groom’s gift to bride
  • Gifts for groom’s attendants
  • Ties and gloves for the groom’s attendants, if not part of their clothing rental package
  • The bride’s bouquet
  • Boutonnieres for groom’s attendants
  • Corsages for immediate members of both families
  • The officiant’s fee or donation
  • The marriage license
  • Transportation for the groom and best man to the ceremony
  • Honeymoon expenses
  • All costs of the rehearsal dinner

Many brides and grooms are throwing etiquette out the window and doing what works best for them….I think every money situation is different and find what works best for you and go with it.
