Wedding DIY Backdrops!

Want a simple way to make your wedding unique? Create a wedding backdrop!  Backdrops are a perfect way to decorate a ceremony altar, frame certain tables at your reception, or create a unique photo taking area.  The best part is that most of these backdrops can be the perfect do-it-yourself project!  The materials are usually inexpensive and you don’t have to be super crafty to create them.

I have listed some of my favorite backdrops below!

One backdrop idea is to use paper or fabric and cut in to different sized circles.  String them together and hang for a modern, yet whimsical backdrop.

Any materials that can be strung together can create this same effect.  Take a look at these flowers, you can use fake or real, to create a perfect garden backdrop.

An inexpensive backdrop that can create a bold statement is to hang long strands of streamers in different colors creating a colorful backdrop.

Fabric or wallpaper are also easy materials to create a backdrop.  Using modern colorful prints can give punch of color and visual interest.

One of my favorite materials is lace fabric or tablecloths.  I love how it is hung from a clothesline with clothespins.  It is simple and absolutely beautiful!

Using old materials like wood doors or nailing old wood together creates a rustic elegant backdrop.

Chalkboard paint has made it possible to paint a piece of wood and write any special phrases that are special to your wedding. Great for photo booths!

How fun does this backdrop?  It is covered in wallpaper with holes cut out to fit the frames creating the most adorable photo station!

Are you using a fun and creative materials to make a backdrop at your wedding?  We want to know!

Family Heirloom Weddings

All brides are trying to make their wedding special! One of the easiest ways to make your wedding more meaningful is to incorporate family heirlooms.  Isn’t family one of the most important things surrounding a wedding?  You are essentially joining the two families together and by using family items, however small, it can make a huge impact.  Adding family heirlooms can make a simple item, like a table centerpiece, mean so much more.

The inspiration for this blog came from the wedding on June 16th at our very own Glendalough Manor where the bride and groom, Elizabeth and Bradley, had a beautiful vintage inspired wedding that incorporated family heirlooms throughout the reception.  They used the families’ antique silver trays, silver and glass vases and other collectables as the centerpieces for the guest tables.  The incredibly talented florist DGL Designs used these family heirlooms to create amazing centerpieces.   DGL Designs added an assortment of ivory and green flowers including peonies, hydrangea, roses, and lisianthus creating unique centerpieces that were different on every table.

Elizabeth and Bradley also used their parents and grandparents newlywed pictures to surround their gorgeous four tiered wedding cake. What an amazing idea and tribute to the family!  This wedding was a classic vintage affair in every sense of the word!!

There are many ways to create your own vintage wedding like Elizabeth and Bradley.  Start by asking family if they have any items from their wedding or heirlooms you may use.  You may be surprised at how much they have to give you! Plus, they will be honored you want to include them in your special day.

For example, brides are using family brooches or other jewelry such as pearls to adorn their wedding bouquets.

Even a handkerchief or locket can add an extra special touch to your wedding bouquet.

Another way to incorporate family memorabilia is to wear the same jewelry that your mother or grandmother wore on their wedding day.

If you are lucky enough to have a wedding dress that was passed down you can decide to display the dress or even wear it!! Other items you can borrow include garters, shoes, veil, or headpiece.

I hope this has inspired you to use some of your own family heirlooms at your wedding. Stay posted for more amazing pictures from Brandelyn Photography of this vintage inspired wedding!

Wedding Decor: Vintage Birdcages!

Birdcages are not just being used as gift card holders anymore!  With the popularity of vintage themed weddings, birdcages are being used in so many different ways to decorate ceremony and reception spaces.  If you are having a rustic or vintage themed wedding you can use birdcages for an easy and inexpensive DIY decor element.

A great way to incorporate birdcages is to use them as the centerpieces for the tables at your reception!  Vintage birdcages are beautiful by themselves and with candles or flowers they become stunning centerpieces.

You can find small birdcages to use as pew ends or even use them as place cards at every place setting.

Or find a large birdcage to hang and display place cards!  Some brides are also using it as a “wishing well” where guests can leave them their well wishes!

One of the most beautiful ways I have seen birdcages used is to hang them from a tree or tent.  You can even put candles in the birdcages and use them as romantic lighting.  Just stunning!

And if you want to go all out with the bird cage theme why not have a bird cage wedding cake?

Do you like vintage bird cages for weddings?  Leave us your thoughts!
