Light Up with Lamps!

Have you ever thought about using a lamp for a wedding centerpiece? At first, I thought the idea of a lamp centerpiece would look cheesy but I was surprised to see how much I liked this unique look!

There are many reasons lamps make great centerpieces. Lamps and lamp shades come in all different shapes, sizes and colors so the possibilities are endless on the final look of the centerpiece.

Of course lamps look beautiful when paired with flowers.  Some lamps are glass on the bottom and can be filled with flowers to match the wedding.

Another way to pair lamps and flowers is to pair place flowers at the base of the lamp shade.  I love the height that the lamp shade brings to table!

Depending on the lamp you choose and how you accessorize the lamp can give a totally different look and feel.  A modern approach is to choose a modern lamp like the one below and use vases of flowers around the base of the lamp. Or for a vintage look use vintage bud vases to surround the lamp base.

Some brides are opting to use smaller lamps either alone or in a group.  The patterned or colored lamp shade is used instead of flowers.

Romantic Wedding Flowers: Peonies

One of my all time favorite flowers are Peonies and who wouldn’t love this big beautiful flower? It is no surprise that peonies are one of the most popular flowers for bridal bouquets.

If you are a girly girl like me, peonies are the ultimate bridal flower.  This fluffy, ultra romantic flower looks amazing by itself or paired with other types of flowers.  In my opinion, it is the ultimate in classic beauty and vintage style.

One of the best thing about Peonies are their size.  Just a couple of stems of Peonies can make a stunning centerpiece.

Brides take note….. these classic flowers are mostly available in late March/early April through July so if you want these flowers you have a small window to get married! Many brides have been known to plan their weddings in these months for the sole purpose of using this coveted flower.

Another great characteristic of the Peony is the different looks one flower can give.  You can leave the bloom closed, partly open or open all the way to give a totally different look to your bouquet.

And peonies come in many different colors like pink, fuchsia, lilac and of course classic white.

Wedding Flowers: Orchids

Are you overwhelmed trying to decide on your wedding flowers?  You are not alone!  Many brides feel this way when they begin choosing flowers for their wedding. There are hundreds of types, styles and colors to choose from so it is no wonder brides feel a bit overwhelmed.   No need to worry…over the next few weeks I will be introducing you to some of the most beautiful and widely used wedding flowers so you can decide which flowers are right for you!

One of my favorite flowers are orchids!  Not only do they have a contemporary, modern elegance in look and feel but are also very durable flowers able to withstand hot weather.  This makes it a perfect choice for outside weddings.

In the past, orchids were rarely used at weddings due to their high cost but are now more popular and less rare, which has resulted in lower prices.  There are five types of orchids that can are most commonly used in wedding bouquets and arrangements.

Dendrobium Orchids:

Dendrobium orchids are the smallest bloom size but are also the most versatile.  They come in a long stem and can be used in bouquets as a single bloom or great on a stem in a vase to make a dramatic flower arrangement.

Cymbidium Orchids:

Cymbidium orchids are very popular for weddings lasting extremely well out of water and coming in a variety of colors; from white, pale pink, yellow, green to deep burgundy and brown.

Phalaenopsis Orchids:

This is probably the most expensive orchid but also the largest and most elegant of the orchid family.  These are seen mostly in bridal bouquets and look elegant bunched together with little to no other complimentary flowers.  This type of orchid is normally found in white but can be found in pink and purple.

Mokara Orchids:

This orchid has a starfish-shaped bloom, available year round  and come in a variety of colors. This orchid is perfect for a bouquet or in an arrangement.

Vanda Orchids:

Vanda orchids come in a wide variety of vibrant colors and even come in a very rare blue color. Unusual for most other orchids, they do have a strong fragrance.

If you ask me, my favorite bouquets mix all different types of orchids!

We hope this has helped you find the right orchid for you!
