2012 Wedding Trend: Ombre!

Ombre is a french word meaning shaded or graduated in color. Up until a few weeks ago I had heard this word in fashion but never paid too much attention to it, until I posted the picture of the ombre petal aisle runner mentioned in our blog Unique Aisle Runners.  For weddings you will start seeing this trend in wedding cakes, linens, flowers and even wedding dresses.  If you want a monochromatic color scheme, using an ombre pattern will give more of an edge to your single color tones.

My suggestion would be to go to your local hardware or paint store and start choosing paint swatches in the colors you like best. Most paint swatches are displayed from the lightest to darkest shade (ombre) so it will be easier to choose some of the color combinations you love.

One of the most popular ways you may see ombre at a wedding is with the wedding cake!

Sometimes the inside of the wedding cake will also be in an ombre pattern with multiple flavors in each layer.  Just another way to add to this Ombre themed wedding!

Flowers are another way to use an ombre pattern from lightest to darkest on the tables.  I think long estate tables really make this look pop!

I love the idea of renting or even making your own ombre runners to compliment the floral centerpieces.

And don’t forget about the fashion to match!  Bridesmaid can be in dresses of varying shades ranging from lightest to darkest.  Just make sure if you choose to do ombre dresses to make the bouquets very simple or it can be too much!

Some of these inspiration photos I have found are absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to see more ombre weddings!

I know this trend isn’t for every bride but I would love to hear what you think about the ombre themed wedding!

Delicious Dessert Stations

Everyone expects to eat cake at a wedding but there is a new trend brides are going gaga over…dessert stations!!  The more choices you can give your guests the better! Dessert Stations are a fun way to treat your guests and they look great too! It’s not as easy as it looks putting a great dessert station or bar together but with a little creativity you can come up with some beautiful looking and great tasting desserts to add to your dessert station.

Here are a few of my favorite dessert station ideas! Enjoy!

Right now I am in love with the Smore’s station!! Adults will feel like a kid again roasting their own marshmallows and making smore’s!

If you are getting married in the summer what better way than to have a ice cream station stocked with all the toppings for your guests?

Or a fun twist on an ice cream station is a ice cream sandwich station stocked with crushed Oreo cookies or Reese’s.

Who doesn’t love cakes, cake pops and an assortment of pastries? I think it’s a great idea to use vintage glass dessert stands to display them?

Or offer your guests a variety of homemade cookies….just don’t forget the cold milk!

How cute is offering a milk station with white, chocolate and strawberry milk?  Too cute!

What do you think about these dessert stations?  We would love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Planning!

Fun Food Stations!

Who isn’t tired of eating the same baked chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes at every wedding? I know I am!!  I recently attended a wedding reception where the bride offered themed food stations for dinner.  I have to say it was one of the most fun and interesting wedding dinners I had ever had that I couldn’t help but share some of these ideas with you!

You may not like the idea of only offering food stations at your wedding but I think even if you decide on a buffet dinner you can always add one or two of these stations to your menu to make it a little more interesting. Or some of these stations would work great as a late night snack after a long night of dancing!

One station that would be a great addition to any buffet menu is the Mashed Potatoes Station!   Guests are offered whipped mashed potatoes with an assortment of toppings to choose from including cheese, broccoli, gravy, bacon and much more.  The best part is they are served in these martini glasses which look so yummy once prepared!

A new station I love is a burger and fry station!  How cute are these mini sliders?  Guests can choose if they want a beef or veggie patty and add their own condiments including choice of cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato.  Add some hot dogs by this slider station and some fries and onion rings you have an all-American themed station that guests won’t be able to get enough of!

If you are having a more casual wedding, I like the idea of a grilled cheese or panini station.  Serve with some tomato soup and you have yummy meal all at one station. Grilled cheese sandwiches and panini’s are also great for a late night snack!

If you want an Italian themed station you can choose to have a chef attended pasta station where guests can choose the type of pasta, sauce and toppings and it is cooked in front of them.  Or you can have an assortment of pizzas! Yum!

And to wash it all down you can have a fun themed drink station!

Make sure to check out tomorrow’s blog on delicious dessert stations!! Trust me they will make your mouth water!
