Cupcake Wedding Cakes

Over the last few weeks I have had several brides tell me they want a cupcake wedding cake!

Believe it or not cupcake wedding cakes have been around since the mid-90’s. Over the past few years these cakes have gained increased popularity with brides.  There are many reasons brides are choosing cupcake cakes and one of the biggest reasons is price.  If you are a DIY bride, cupcake cakes can be a great way to save money especially if you choose plain iced cupcakes and decorate them yourself. You can use all sorts of edible flowers and candies to decorate the cupcakes. You can save even more money if you pick them up from the bakery yourself and display them on the day of the wedding!

Using colored ribbon on the edge of the cupcake stand is a great way to add a pop of color!

Brides be warned…depending on the amount of detail of the cupcakes you choose they can end up being very pricey. If you want something a little more intricate on each cupcake it can be more expensive than a traditional wedding cake due to the amount of work involved.

Check out this idea of having a colored wedding cake topper!  The use of color is very elegant!

Another reason you may choose a cupcake cake is that they can be very unique and different.  My favorite look of cupcake cakes is to have an anniversary tier topper to cut in to on the wedding day.  That way you are mixing the traditional wedding cake topper with a more modern feel by using cupcakes for the other “tiers”.

Would you have a cupcake wedding cake?  We would love to hear your thoughts on this growing trend!

Fun Food Stations!

Who isn’t tired of eating the same baked chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes at every wedding? I know I am!!  I recently attended a wedding reception where the bride offered themed food stations for dinner.  I have to say it was one of the most fun and interesting wedding dinners I had ever had that I couldn’t help but share some of these ideas with you!

You may not like the idea of only offering food stations at your wedding but I think even if you decide on a buffet dinner you can always add one or two of these stations to your menu to make it a little more interesting. Or some of these stations would work great as a late night snack after a long night of dancing!

One station that would be a great addition to any buffet menu is the Mashed Potatoes Station!   Guests are offered whipped mashed potatoes with an assortment of toppings to choose from including cheese, broccoli, gravy, bacon and much more.  The best part is they are served in these martini glasses which look so yummy once prepared!

A new station I love is a burger and fry station!  How cute are these mini sliders?  Guests can choose if they want a beef or veggie patty and add their own condiments including choice of cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato.  Add some hot dogs by this slider station and some fries and onion rings you have an all-American themed station that guests won’t be able to get enough of!

If you are having a more casual wedding, I like the idea of a grilled cheese or panini station.  Serve with some tomato soup and you have yummy meal all at one station. Grilled cheese sandwiches and panini’s are also great for a late night snack!

If you want an Italian themed station you can choose to have a chef attended pasta station where guests can choose the type of pasta, sauce and toppings and it is cooked in front of them.  Or you can have an assortment of pizzas! Yum!

And to wash it all down you can have a fun themed drink station!

Make sure to check out tomorrow’s blog on delicious dessert stations!! Trust me they will make your mouth water!

Kids Table Ideas

Let’s face it, as much as you may not want kids to attend your wedding or even indicate an adult reception there will inevitably be some guests that have to bring their children.  You have to decide what is most important to you….you allow them to attend the wedding with their children or put your foot down and inform them they cannot come with their kids.  If you make the latter decision, be prepared to upset some friends or family.

In my opinion kids are an important part of the family and why hassle with upsetting people just to prevent a handful of kids from attending.  Trust me, if you choose an evening wedding most  guests will leave the kiddies at home with a sitter however out of town guests may not have that luxury.  If you are having a few kids attend why not come up with some creative ideas to make them happy and keep them busy at the same time!

One of my favorite ideas is a kids table or kids “station” where the kids can go either during dinner or immediately following dinner and have their own fun.

Make sure to give the kids a variety of fun things to do….some of my favorite things are crayons, stickers, and coloring books.  Any fun container (like the lunchbox above)  is a perfect way to display all of the items. I would also suggest personalizing the gift or container. Just like adults, kids will feel very special knowing they were thought of for the wedding.   Another great idea is to use parchment paper for a table mat or over the entire table so you don’t have to worry about any messes or drawings on the linens.

Be creative and choose age appropriate items for the children attending.  If you have kids that are a little older you can even put card games or puzzles that all of the kids can have fun playing with!  How cute is the mini etch-a-sketch below?!

The best part is that all of these fun items also double as great favors for the kids to take home with them after the wedding!
