Wedding Fashion to Wedding Cakes!

I love the idea of using your wedding day fashion as the inspiration for your wedding cake!  So much time is spent choosing the perfect wedding colors, dresses, and accessories.  Why not use this as the inspiration for your wedding cake design?

Some brides want their cake to resemble their wedding dress.  An easy way to do this is to choose some of your favorite features of your dress.  Bring pictures of your dress to your cake baker and they can help in designing a cake that matches your dress perfectly!

I love the idea of using the buttons on the back of your dress all the way down the cake!

If you have a sash try and incorporate that around the base of the tiers! Ruffles on your dress also make a great accent to a wedding cake!

With a lace dress, skilled bakers can match the exact pattern of your lace out of fondant icing to go on the cake!

If you love the bridesmaid dresses you can even use their dresses as the inspiration for the cake design!

Having a colored wedding cake is sure to stand out!

All That Glitters is…Gold!

Metallics, especially gold, are one of the biggest trends in 2012 and I am completely in love with this trend!  If you want an elegant yet modern wedding, try pairing your wedding colors with gold.  So many colors look fabulous with gold and it instantly transforms a soft, neutral color palette in to a rich color story.

Gold is a not only a perfect accent to many different wedding colors but is best seen in the wedding details.  One of the first ways to give you guests a sneak peek in to your wedding is with your choice of invitation.  Gold letterpress invitations are a perfect choice when using gold!

Some bold brides are even choosing to wear gold wedding dresses.  Definitely not a for every bride but if you want to stand out, a gold dress will certainly do the trick!

If a gold wedding dress is a little too much for you, then try pairing your dress with gold shoes or accessories.

You can even carry a bouquet with gold accents!

Many brides are going all out and choosing a gold wedding cake.  At first I thought this might be a little over the top but I have to say I think it is so unique and interesting I just can’t help but love it!

Whether you choose a soft color palette like pink or choose a bold color like orange, gold is the perfect compliment!

Look how unbelievable gold looks with this chevron pattern (another 2012 trend)!?!

Tell us what you think about this 2012 metallic trend.  Like or dislike…we want to know!

Chevron Wedding Cakes

I am in love with everything Chevron!  The Chevron pattern, similar to a zig-zag pattern,  is being used everywhere in home design and now showing up in weddings for 2012! From stationary and programs to being the design for wedding cakes, the chevron pattern is a modern, fun design that looks great in any color.  I like the idea of incorporating the chevron pattern in little ways in to a wedding.  The cake is a great place to use the chevron to add dimension or to add a splash of color!  Here are some great examples of wedding cakes that have the chevron design!

Many brides are choosing a white or ivory base for the cake color and adding a chevron pattern to only one layer and embellishing with fondant flowers.  Simple yet modern design!

If you are looking to have a cake with more color and design I like the idea of using thicker tiers with multiple colors used in the chevron pattern.

Or you can use a different pattern on each tier (swiss dots, chevron, ruffles, etc.) like below!

How beautiful is this ombre and chevron patterned cake?

Charm City Cakes recently made a cake using the chevron pattern that is absolutely stunning. I love the use of color and pattern on each tier!

We would love to hear your thoughts on these chevron wedding cakes!  Are you using a chevron pattern at your wedding?

We want to hear about it!
